Who are the
Mayan? Who were they
yesterday, who are they today? Much has been written about the
ancient Mayans, a subject near and dear to the hearts of many
archeologists and anthropologists, but it is wrong to delegate this
people completely to antiquity. Never forget that the Mayans have not
disappeared. They may have mystecriously walked away from an old life
style that no longer served them, and hurrah to them for that, but they
have not walked off the face of the earth like the Anasazi seem to have
done. They remain a living, growing, culturally creative people
to this day.
Hidden in the cells of their lives, lies the encoded secrets of the mysterious yesterdays. Hidden in the laugh of their lives, lies the essence of what it means to be Mayan today. Isn't it time, we learned to share that laughter? Mayan
