Mayan
mythology and religion formed around the central belief of
returning power to the world. During preclassic and classic
periods, natural forces such as earth, sky, death, corn, etc. were seen
as hybrid symbols whose image shapeshifted according to the need of the
moment. During the post classic period, this fluidity
changed. Images become more fixed in nature as they developed
into actual divinites in a hierarchical pantheon.
The city states of the classic period, the ruins with which we are most familiar, were representative of the universe - a microcosm of the macrocosm. As a result, it creatred an ideal state for the required ritua;s needed to achieve world harmony and order. There are a number of Mayan gods that show up as players in the House of the Jaguar. We will begin unveiling further details about the Jaguar, Ix Chel, Kukulcan or Quetzalcoatl, and the Hero Twins to name a few over the next couple of weeks. Stune tuned. Mayan
